I didn't post for a long time since I didn't want to write some awful chest beating, wailing "thing".
There are many eyewitnesses who will have written about the horror of it a lot more eloquently. What it immediately made me think of was the Chapman brothers - one of their awful dioramas. Only this time, real.
The news source I've been using - of course, is BBC news. However, I've been trying to avoid seeing much of it, given the odd snippet I've seen. here however is a photo of the Tsunami approaching, taken by tourist. There's endless video footage of it hitting. I just spent a few minutes watching it with Mackay. Sick feelings of horror and dread.
So we've given some money and I think we'll give some more. What else can you do. I hope the makers of Hollywood blockbuster disaster movies have given more than generously.
I did want to recall one beach scene that I saw. Someone filming as two nice surfing type waves approach a beach, the children playing there pointing and laughing. And the wave just keeps coming. And the children just aren't there any more. I'm not sure if having nora makes these feelings more acute, I'm pretty sure it does. But to see... they just disappeared. Beautiful, smiling children, pointing.
